Submissions

Risen Books is a small independent publisher, so you should be aware of what to expect from us. Our publishing model is inspired in part by another independent publisher, Marcher Lord Press, so we encourage you to read their explanation of the model (no need to repeat that here).

We are actively looking for manuscripts in the following genres: Mystery (but not cozy mysteries), suspense, thriller, sci-fi/fantasy, historical (but no romance) and Young Adult. We may also consider well-researched Biblical Fiction. Please do not submit proposals for romance, chick lit, women’s fiction, picture books, erotica, or non-fiction. Unagented authors may submit their proposals.

Your novel must be completed before you submit your proposal.

Email a query letter that includes an overview of your book, the genre, an estimated word count, a short bio with previous publishing or writing information, your current platform (blogs, podcast, speaking), and your contact information (address, phone, and email address).

Submit also a one or two page synopsis of your book that includes the ending, and the first chapter.

All of the above should be pasted into the body of your email and sent to queries@risenfiction.com. Include the word “QUERY” in the subject of the email along with the title of your novel. We will respond within one week if we are interested in seeing the rest of the manuscript.

Please familiarize yourself with the Web sites below and read their advice on writing queries and on writing fiction in general. Your chances of publication are greater if you submit polished manuscripts instead of rough drafts, and if you have had competent readers critique your work (critique groups, fiction editorial services, etc.) .

Thanks for your interest in Risen Books. We look forward to reading your work.
